BEIJING: Pakistan has asked the international community to help complete its anti-militancy and counter-terrorist operations and meet the humanitarian challenge.
Addressing a seminar of researchers and policy analysts on “Security and Prosperity in South Asia” at Tsinghua University, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Chin Masood Khan said that the war on terror would not succeed without Pakistan’s pivotal role.
He urged the international community to give all the space to Pakistan to accomplish the mission of eliminating terrorism.“We will not succeed if for smaller strategic gains, espionage networks are launched, insurgencies are abetted, religious and sectarian hatred is incited, and ethnic differences are exploited”, he warned adding that “such machinations strengthen terrorists and weaken the forces fighting them”.
Khan emphasised that external elements should cease their activities aimed at creating instability in the tribal areas, NWFP and Balochistan. He pointed out that Pakistan was a sovereign and resilient nation and would successfully deal the challenges it was confronted with. The ambassador said that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Swat and adjoining areas had swelled to more than 3 million.
